Getting Started: Residents of Other States
Crossroads Wisconsin office serves families who reside in states other than Minnesota and the Western half of Wisconsin. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Thursday, central time.

Adoptive parents begin the adoption process by submitting a completed application to Crossroads Adoption Services. An application can be requested by e-mail at wisconsinoffice@crossroadsadoption.com or postal mail by calling 715-386-5550. Families are required to have an approved home study prepared by an agency which is licensed in their state of residence. Adoptive parents are required to have a current passport. Crossroads will work closely with both the adoptive family and the home study agency to insure the smoothest adoption possible.

Crossroads will assist adoptive parents with the paperwork needed for an international adoption. At present, Crossroads can assist with adoptions in the following countries:  China, Colombia, Guatemala, India, Nepal, Ukraine and Vietnam. Crossroads can assist with adoptions from the Philippines if there is no agency accredited by the Philippines in the state of residence of the adoptive family. Once a child has been identified, there is a waiting time before the child enters the adoptive home. This time is necessary to complete the legal adoption or guardianship in the other state or country. This time varies from several weeks to several months.

If there has been a legal adoption in the child's birth country, the child will become a U.S. citizen upon entering the country. If there has been no legal adoption in the child’s birth country, the home study agency will assist the adoptive parents in finalizing the adoption according to the rules of their state of residence.
